Senior Procurement Officer
Department of Parliamentary Services

  • Work-life balance and hybrid work

About the Role
Reporting to the Manager, Procurement, you'll play a key role in driving high-quality, strategic procurement across the parliamentary departments. From providing trusted advice and managing complex sourcing activities, to building stakeholder capability and shaping procurement systems, you'll deliver outcomes that are transparent, efficient, and aligned with organisational priorities.

This isn't a repetitive, transactional role. You'll work across a diverse range of goods and services that reflect the unique operating environment of Parliament. Whether it's IT, HR, Buildings & Grounds, Security, Broadcast, Libraries or Catering, no two procurements are the same. You'll collaborate with professionals from a broad mix of backgrounds, giving you the chance to connect with, learn from, and relate to colleagues with varied perspectives and experiences.

What makes this role interesting and rewarding?

  • Ownership of end-to-end procurement and sourcing
  • The opportunity to shape procurement that delivers real value
  • A relationship-driven role where trust and collaboration are central to your work
  • Regular interaction with diverse senior stakeholders to build your communication and engagement skills
  • Scope to innovate and drive improvements

What does success look like in this role?
Our ideal candidate brings more than just technical procurement skills — they also demonstrate sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to navigate a unique and dynamic environment.

To thrive in this role, you'll:

  • Exercise strong professional judgment, especially in complex situations
  • Adapt confidently to the distinctive and fast-paced parliamentary setting
  • Maintain an apolitical and impartial approach in all your work
  • Uphold and model the core Parliamentary values: integrity, accountability, respect, and excellence
  • Understand and apply the fundamental principles of procurement, including value for money, transparency, and fairness
  • Be someone stakeholders trust for credible, thoughtful, and ethical procurement advice

About You
To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • Proven experience in procurement that ensures best value for money, with the ability to manage complex contracts and maintain probity throughout the process
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide expert procurement and contract management advice to stakeholders
  • Excellent written communication skills, with experience preparing complex procurement and technical documents
  • Strong research, analytical, and conceptual skills, along with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word (Power BI experience is a plus)
  • Confidence in negotiations, with the ability to influence others using diplomacy, tact, and discretion
