About The RoleThis is a fourteen-month appointment to cover parental leave and is available in multiple locations. The Market Management department sits within the Operations division and is responsible for the sound financial management of Australia's National Electricity Market (NEM), Western Australian Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) and east coast gas markets. Our functions include settlement, prudential management, metering and retail market operations. The NEM Metering team is accountable for the accurate, compliant, efficient operation of the NEM metering data, retail market operations and metering services functions under the National Electricity Rules (NER) and relevant procedures. This includes the management of over 150 rule compliance obligations, 5 IT systems and 10 million meters in the NEM. Distribution Network Service Providers (DNSP's) and Meter Data Service Providers (MDP's) are key external stakeholders and the subject of service level agreements managed by the NEM Metering team. The team also contributes to market reform initiatives such as the embedment of approx. $5mil. additional smart meter by 2030 as part of the Metering Services Review (MSR) Project. Working autonomously, you will use your analytical skills and subject matter expertise to identify, analyse, define, test and implement rule, process and system changes that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operational processes and systems. As a subject matter expert you will contribute to strategic projects related to market enhancement and/or process improvement projects through the provision of analysis, option development and recommendations on solutions.
What You Will Be Doing- Manage response to compliance or technical issues including root cause analysis, reporting, risk assessment and implementation of fixes or mitigations.
- Using subject matter expertise of the metering and retail market functions, participate in and contribute to the identification, reporting, assessment and management of complex technical and operational issues and risks.
- Recommend process and procedure improvement activities and projects, that reduce compliance risk, improve operational efficiency organisational capability and deliver improved market outcomes. Provide subject matter expertise to operational and Digital/Reform projects.
- Using subject matter expertise of systems, rules and processes to undertake complex quantitative and qualitative analysis and propose options for market enhancement opportunities that align with AEMO's strategic direction and impact on operational and/or systems frameworks.
- Supporting the system implementation of NEM reform projects providing input to requirements and performing technical user acceptance testing.
- Degree in economics, computing, commerce, engineering, science or a related discipline.
- Strong metering and/or metering data experience in the Electricity sector, with working knowledge of MSATS and data analysis tools, including but not limited to SQL, Excel, PowerBI, Databricks.
- Experience with system integration or technical user acceptance testing from a business perspective testing complex business systems.
- Proven qualitative and quantitative analytical skills that provide technically resourceful, evidenced based solutions to issues and execute solutions.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting and operating in compliance with technical documents and/or legal instruments, such as rules and regulations and the ability to explain compliance requirements to a broad range of stakeholders.
