Overview

Brimbank City Council is seeking a Coordinator Urban Design to lead the Urban Design Unit in delivering plans, guidelines and designs for town centres, streetscapes, public realm assets and active transport infrastructure. This full-time, permanent position is based in Sunshine, Melbourne's western suburbs.



About the Role

Reporting to the Manager Parks & Public Realm, you will guide and empower a multi-disciplinary team to prepare plans, guidelines, and designs for town centres, activity centres, public realm assets, streetscapes, and active transport infrastructure. Your work will help create a safe, sustainable, high-quality urban environment that reflects Brimbank's diverse community.



Responsibilities
  • Lead, manage and motivate a multi-disciplinary Urban Design team to deliver services, programs and projects.
  • Develop plans, guidelines and designs for town centres, public realm assets, streetscapes and active transport infrastructure.
  • Prepare project briefs, business cases, and capital works programming for urban design initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including State and Federal government partners, to advance urban design outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with Brimbank values and behaviours and contribute to policy development and evaluation related to open spaces and urban forests.


Qualifications
  • Professional tertiary qualifications in Urban Design, Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing a multi-disciplinary team delivering services, programs and projects.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to negotiate outcomes and influence stakeholders in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience in strategy and policy development, consultation, analysis, evaluation, and implementation as it applies to open spaces and urban forest.
  • Experience in planning, programming and project management of capital works, including development of project briefs and business cases.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work under pressure to achieve outcomes.
