The Role

We're looking for a dedicated Backend Developer to join the Engineering team in a pivotal role in delivering robust, scalable, and secure backend systems that enhance NGS Super's technology capabilities. A champion of efficiency and technical excellence, you will design, implement, and optimise server-side logic to support seamless integration with front-end components.

Leveraging expertise in modern backend frameworks and methodologies, you will build reusable codebases, ensure high system performance, and safeguard data integrity and security.

You will be deeply involved in the development cycle, contributing to the architecture of cutting-edge backend solutions for NGS digital products and digital initiatives, and play an instrumental role in delivering a new cloud-based data warehouse, related technologies, and supporting future workloads of AI/ML applications.

What you'll do:

• Design, develop and maintain scalable and secure RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs
• Build and maintain synchronous and asynchronous microservices/serverless functions using Node.js and Python
• Integrate with cloud, third party, SaaS or on-premise databases
• Design and manage secure authentication and authorisation flows using OAuth2/OIDC/SAML
• Manage cloud components utilising infrastructure as code
• Develop and integrate AI and ML workloads within the cloud
• Automate CI/CD pipelines and monitor back-end services
• Write unit/integration tests, participate in code reviews and ensure best practices in API design & performance
• Maintain visibility into system health and security using logging/monitoring tools
• Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of internal DevOps practices, standards, guidelines and ways of working
• Respond to and manage incidents to minimise downtime and impact on users
• Continuously monitor the performance and availability of the systems
• Ensure strong documentation of all design decisions, procedures and playbooks
• Work closely with the broader technology team and other stakeholders to support application lifecycle management, data development and assist in broader technical collaborations
• Provide support to the Cloud Engineer
  
  

About You

A backend specialist with a strong technical foundation, you will bring the following key skills:

• Strong programming skills in Node.js and Python with ability to write clean, maintainable, secure and testable code
• Solid experience with cloud-native architectures and event-driven design
• Experience with SPA/PWA front-end integration patterns to back ends
• Proficiency in designing RESTful APIs and or GraphQL endpoints
• Experience with authentication protocols (JWT, Oauth2, OIDC, passwordless - WebAuthN, FIDO)
• Familiarity with DevOps tools and processes (CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code)
• Strong understanding of data modelling for both SQL and noSQL databases
• Sound knowledge of defensive coding practices to address common security vulnerabilities
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Hands-on experience with any of the following AWS resources: VPC, EC2, ECS, EKS, S3, Lambda, API Gateway, Secrets, DynamoDB, Aurora, RDS, Redshift, SQS, SNS, Eventbridge, StepFunctions, Cloudwatch, X-Ray, Inspector, Lambda, Amplify, Appsync, AppFlow, Glue, Route53, ACM, Sagemaker, Cloudformation.
  
  

The following are nice to have but not essential:

• Experience working in an APRA regulated or similar environment
• AWS Certifications
• Experience with Okta or Auth0 Customer Identity Management
