Role Summary and Purpose

The Senior Underwriter is responsible for underwriting all new and existing portfolio of business within set guidelines, authority levels, and service standards. This role includes mentoring and developing Underwriters and reporting to senior management.

The Senior Underwriter maintains a professional approach in all stakeholder interactions, managing effective, compliant, and profitable underwriting for Arch Insurance within a dedicated portfolio/product.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Underwrite within company policy and standards.
  • Prepare reports on portfolio performance and maintain credit control.
  • Participate in audits, Peer Review Process, and compliance activities.
  • Ensure documentation accuracy and completeness.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to maximize opportunities and minimize expenses.
  • Underwrite Professional Indemnity products to ensure profitability.
  • Develop and maintain broker relationships through regular visits.
  • Provide timely service and administrative support.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities.
  • Assist in product development and distribution strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Apply sound underwriting practices for new business, renewals, and alterations.
  • Process and document transactions accurately.
  • Respond promptly to broker requests.
  • Maintain up-to-date reporting spreadsheets.
  • Manage business development, portfolio performance, and profitability.
  • Build long-term relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to underwriting strategy and act as a referral point.
  • Travel as required by the business.
Senior Team Member Responsibilities
  • Supervise, train, and mentor team members.
  • Support the manager in overseeing junior staff.
  • Lead by example and provide guidance.

Experience
  • Experience in financial services and legislative frameworks.
  • Proven ability to grow profitable portfolios.
  • Minimum 5 years in similar roles.
