CAPDA Consulting is seeking experienced professionals to support a range of Defence programs focused on safety, compliance, and operational assurance. These contract roles offer the opportunity to contribute to nationally significant work within a collaborative and high-performing environment.

Base pay range
A$150.00/hr - A$190.00/hr

Duration: Until 30 June 2026

Immediate Start Available

Clearance: NV1 required

Location: Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia

CAPDA Consulting is seeking experienced professionals to support a range of Defence programs focused on safety, compliance, and operational assurance.

Responsibilities

Comcare Action and Management Officer - DSS Level: Level 3

• Support the implementation and oversight of workplace health and safety initiatives in line with the Commonwealth WHS Act.
• Investigating WHS incidents and identifying root causes.
• Assessing and advising on WHS recommendations and enhancements.
• Conducting audits and contributing to future safety planning.
• Liaising with internal and external WHS entities.
• Drafting high-level communications including ministerial briefs and bid responses.
• Supporting the development of training and awareness programs.
• Strong safety knowledge and experience in systems assurance are essential.

Safety Assurance Officer

• Lead the development and execution of safety assurance frameworks across Defence programs.
• Provide high-level responses to Comcare issues using the Commonwealth WHS Act.
• Manage a small team and oversee WHS response processes.
• Conduct audits, assurance activities, and risk assessments.
• Draft executive-level communications and briefings.
• Align stakeholder engagement strategies with audit and assurance outcomes.

Project or program management experience is highly desirable, along with a strong understanding of WHS legislation.

Safety Training Officer - DSS Level: Level 3

• Design and deliver safety training programs tailored to Defence operational environments.
• Develop training content from scratch (not LMS-based).
• Delivering and assessing training across teams.
• Auditing existing training and recommending improvements.
• Addressing skills gaps and implementing targeted training solutions.
• Equivalent to a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment.

Remote work options may be considered for exceptional candidates.

Civil Maritime Designated Person - DSS Level: Level 4

• Provide expert advice and oversight on maritime safety compliance, with a strong foundation in the Commonwealth WHS Act.
• Managing responses to Comcare and internal WHS matters.
• Leading training, assurance, and audit activities.
• Drafting high-level documentation including tender-level writing.
• Coordinating stakeholder engagement aligned with safety and compliance goals.
• Supporting administrative and strategic management of safety programs.
• Maritime-specific experience is preferred but not essential if WHS expertise is strong.
