Senior Project Coordinor

Adelaide, South Australia at Full time

For almost 30 years, this business has dominated the South Australian construction industry by being a builder clients can trust repeatedly.

The leader of this company has passed down these values, principles, and strategies to the current managers of this award-winning business for decades.

Ensuring that the pioneering spirit is now in the hands of the business's top people.

Having almost 100 employees across our great state isn't easy unless you have a culture that puts its people first above all else.

This is the secret to what has made them a household name in SA, as he handpicks everyone who joins the business, whether a graduate, an administrator, or a manager.

The Culture

This brings me again to what they value most: their people.

Some construction companies cut corners and view their employees as mere labour. This business is the polar opposite. They've spent millions of dollars fitting out one of the best headquarters I've ever had the pleasure of visiting.

Having a place where their staff can look forward to coming to work every day is the difference between a harmonious culture and a worker bee mindset.

Whether it's a flexible working environment, working from home understanding, a well-resourced team and mentor, or the open-door career development and learning policy.

This business grows every facet of a construction professional's career pathway to ensure you become the best you can be.

This begins and ends with the company's leadership being the example everyone wants to emulate and become the company's future leaders.

The Leadership

This company has had the same Construction Manager, Operations Manager, and Commercial Manager leading from the front for almost a decade, which shows that it's a place worth staying and a company worth working for.

They live and breathe the company's vision, knowing what they do matters and that people are always watching.

"Your culture can't be faked because it counts only what your people do when you're not around."

The Opportunity

This opportunity suits an experienced project coordinator looking to join a company that offers complete autonomy over their projects, without spreading them too thin, thanks to exceptional support.

This means it would be for someone who thinks they've got enough experience in their career to be confident in coordinating a project of around $100 million or more without having to be micromanaged and instructed in what to do all the time.

Don't worry, you have a team of 20+ on site with you, so you'll always be in good hands.

The reason this position is open is due to one of the Project Managers going on parental leave for 12 months, so they are hoping the SPC replacing them wants to become a PM on the next project.

This position would provide day-to-day insight into the daily responsibilities of the PM who is currently absent.

Whatever your motivating factors for being in the market or considering this advertisement, rest assured that this business could be the place you're looking for, personally and professionally.

The Background

I find it redundant that the SPC who is reading this to list a bunch of generic responsibilities and skills you no doubt already have, but for the sake of someone reading this who doesn't have them all yet. Please see below for a brief breakdown of what they'd be looking for in the person to have as a foundation.

Previous experience of 5 years or more in coordinating large-scale commercial projects over $50M from concept to completion in a Head Contracting company in Australia.

Tertiary qualifications in Construction Management, Building, Quantity Surveying, or similar

Knowledge of tender processes and the procurement and letting of trade packages with a Head Contractor in Australia.

Financial understanding and knowledge of construction costs within the Australian building industry

Ensures that Inspection and Test Plans are undertaken and that all verification check sheets and Inspection Reports are complied with;

A working knowledge of construction-specific Acts, Codes, and Regulations, specifically the Building Code of Australia, the Security of Payments Act, and the Work Health & Safety Act

The Team

This is a $ 100M+ commercial project just outside the city, which will be running for around three years and has an all-star team waiting for you to join.

The best of the best are on this flagship project, so if one of the needs or wants of you considering this position is having a mentor to level you up in your career, this dream team will do just that for you, learning, growing, and evolving.

Although the particular personality of the person they are looking for isn't critical in the decision-making criteria, someone who is very comfortable liaising with internal and external stakeholders without any issues would be the ideal candidate.

What comes with autonomy, freedom, and an excellent salary is accountability, responsibility, and specific expectations. This means they'd expect your scheduling, programming, and improvement strategies to be high enough to be comparable to those of an experienced PC.

This would show in your strong negotiation skills, efficient time management, and ability to juggle various deadlines without the pressure of the job getting to you.

"Years of service don't equate to mastery, but dedication to your craft does." David - CTA

Whether it's a flexible working environment, working from home understanding, a well-resourced team and mentor, or the open-door career development and learning policy, you can rest assured that whatever gaps in your career you need to be filled, they've got it covered.

Since the SPC background will be very different depending on who matches the opportunity, the salary would, of course, be based on a case-by-case basis, but you'd be paid above market rate, so you don't need to worry about that.

Then, moving into project management after this project is complete gives you access to another significant salary increase as well, so if your goal is to become a Tier 1 Project Manager and you've felt the opportunities have been few and far between lately, then this is the role for you.
