Overview

Opportunity for an Aboriginal person to gain hands-on experience in the health sector while completing a Master of Public Health degree through the NSW Health Aboriginal Population Health Training Initiative.

$84,436 – $112,331 per annum + 12% super & salary packaging | Temporary Full Time (3 years from date of commencement) | Illawarra | REQ600135 | Grade: Health Manager Level 1 | Applications close: 28 September 2025

Program and Responsibilities
  • Join the Aboriginal Population Health Trainee program as part of the NSW Health Aboriginal Population Health Training Initiative (APHTI).
  • Participate in a three-year, full-time, workplace-based program to increase Aboriginal representation in the population health workforce.
  • Complete a variety of placements within ISLHD's Public and Population Health Directorate (PPH), gaining hands-on experience in diverse public health settings.
  • Receive close support from the ISLHD Aboriginal Health and Workforce Directorate to ensure a culturally safe, connected, and empowering environment.
  • Build relationships with Aboriginal staff across the district and engage with Aboriginal communities across the four LGAs served.
  • Undertake part-time postgraduate study toward a Master of Public Health degree, with costs covered by NSW Health.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Applicable vaccination requirements for a Category A role.
  • Evidence of undergraduate degree completion and eligibility to enrol in Master of Public Health.
  • Valid NSW Driver's Licence.
  • Corroboration of Aboriginality and community involvement.
