The Role

The Rise Up program, established in 2022, is part of the BHP Pilbara Education Partnership. It is a whole-school initiative designed to support all students at Hedland SHS in achieving personal growth and success. The program provides extended opportunities for students across Years 7 to 12 to engage with school and community and to celebrate success. The Rise Up Teacher works with students to develop targets for improvement, co-designs plans to meet them, and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to provide learning opportunities for small group learning. The role includes leading whole school assemblies, promoting student voice through the Student Leadership Team, and supporting leadership development. The teacher also collaborates with staff to create meaningful opportunities for students to improve, develop, and demonstrate skills through real-world experiences, including volunteering and community projects. The Rise Up Teacher supports students in building a portfolio of evidence and works with the PBS Committee to embed Positive Behaviour in Schools practices across the school.

The position includes a small teaching component aligned with the successful applicant's skill set and needs of the school, and requires meeting BHP Pilbara Education Partnership contract deliverables, including quarterly, bi-annual and annual reporting, and monitoring the Rise Up budget.

Responsibilities
  • Develop targets for student improvement and co-design plans to meet them
  • Provide a range of learning opportunities to support small group learning
  • Lead whole school assemblies and enhance student voice through the Student Leadership Team
  • Support student leadership growth and development
  • Collaborate with staff to provide real-world learning experiences (volunteering, endorsed programs, community projects)
  • Help students build a portfolio of evidence showcasing growth and readiness for further education or employment
  • Work with the PBS Committee to embed a consistent whole-school behaviour approach
  • Contribute to improving attendance, academic achievement and community engagement
  • Meet contract deliverables and monitor the Rise Up budget
Qualifications and Selection Criteria
  • Hold an eligible teacher qualification and registration
  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or have a valid visa with work rights for the term of the appointment
  • Apply for a WA Working with Children Check before you start
  • Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number
