About The Role

The Team Leader, Workplace Health and Safety sits within the Workplace Health and Safety team. This team provides operational health and safety advice and support to the department, develops and implements a suitable health and safety management system, and ensures compliance with legislative and departmental health and safety requirements.

A key focus of this role is identifying and controlling operational health and safety hazards and risks. This includes managing the department's online incident reporting system, facilitating psychosocial risk assessments related to upcoming psychological health regulations, and developing initiatives for holistic risk management across prevention, early intervention, and response domains.

About You

We are seeking a candidate who can:

  • Provide leadership and expert advice on occupational health and safety legislation, compliance, and best practices to improve staff health and safety outcomes.
  • Assist in developing and implementing the health and safety management system (HSMS) to manage operational risks.
  • Lead initiatives for effective prevention and risk management, and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Manage the department's online hazard and incident reporting system, providing risk management support, conducting inspections, and investigations as needed.
  • Develop strategic plans, audits, and training to monitor and improve safety systems, incorporating communication channels for sharing best practices.
  • Supervise and lead staff to achieve their potential, aligning with departmental values and demonstrating good people management behaviors.
