About The Role

The primary purpose of the role is to utilise competence in traffic and transport engineering, to provide excellent written responses to externally funded project design applications, to meet the need and demands of a growing Metro Melbourne region. Typical projects include complex signalised intersections and developer funded road network upgrade projects. The proposals put forward by external stakeholders and developers will need to be accurately assessed using your own initiative and technical knowledge to subsequently endorse in accordance with corporate guidelines, standards, specifications, and industry best practice. The role also includes assisting with the development of innovative responses to various projects, in a changing road network to ensure safety and network operability.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice to consultants/external parties planners to ensure the review of externally funded projects achieve the safe and functional use of the road network, including the ability to use and interpret SIDRA reports and road safety audits.
  • Provide traffic engineering advice to Regional Management and other key agencies to ensure that DTP contributes to metropolitan traffic and transport objectives across the arterial network, working closely with proponents of externally funded projects.
  • Review and respond to development access solutions, applying current standards and guidelines to ensure safe and efficient use of the road network.
  • Negotiate with and influence key stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes for DTP and the community regarding development proposals on the arterial road network.
  • Collaborate with team members to complete project reviews within agreed timeframes.
  • Assess traffic engineering aspects for minor to moderate projects within Precinct Structure Plans in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Other duties consistent with employment classification, skills, and capabilities as required.

Qualifications And Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant civil/traffic engineering discipline (mandatory).
  • Traffic Modelling knowledge

All new appointments to the department will be subject to a National Criminal Records Check, Misconduct Screening, and a Qualification Check where there is a requirement for a mandatory qualification. Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa necessary for the nature of the position. Recipients of Victorian Public Service (VPS) voluntary departure packages should note that re-employment restrictions apply. Non-VPS applicants will be subject to a probation period of six months.
