Strategic Projects provides a strategic and policy capacity to deliver sensitive and high priority projects in line with Government and departmental priorities. The Principal Policy Officer will play a key role in the delivery of this work by supporting and leading various policy, project and strategy initiatives. They will also provide advice on emerging and ongoing matters and represent the division and Department in various internal and external forums.

Period of Appointment: Appointment to the role is on a fixed term flexible basis (up to 73.5 hours per fortnight) for 12 months.

Award/Classification: Tasmanian State Service Award - General Stream Band 7
Salary: $129,302.00 to $136,089.00 per annum
Duties- Plan and manage the delivery of projects using appropriate management tools and techniques to ensure milestones are achieved and outcomes delivered on time and within resource constraints.
- Prepare official correspondence, including minutes, briefing papers, reports and legislative materials and packages as required to manage the role's allocated tasks or as directed.
- Establish and build productive working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective engagement, and where relevant, that consultative processes and objectives are achieved within time constraints.
- Allocate and monitor the work undertaken by direct reports and/or project team members, ensuring that expectations are clear with regard to the proposed tasks, agreed standards of delivery, timelines and expected outcomes.
- Represent the agency as required and deliver timely, relevant and authoritative policy and project advice on matters of strategic priority to the department.
- In conjunction with the broader team, actively engage and contribute to the development of policy initiatives, project management and business practices that enhance the quality of the division's outputs. This is facilitated through participating in team discussions, networking and contributing ideas for improving work approaches consistent with the division's objectives.
- Assist with the central coordination work stream, ensuring that the department responds appropriately and in a timely and effective manner on all issues which require input from across multiple groups.
- An undergraduate degree or higher, with experience in policy, law, commerce, or economics would be particularly valued.
