Indigenous Future Student Program Coordinator

The University of Wollongong (UOW) invites applications from dedicated and community-minded individuals for the role of Indigenous Future Student Program Coordinator. This position provides a meaningful opportunity to contribute to long-term change by supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander high school students on their journey to higher education.

This is an identified position open only to applicants of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, in accordance with relevant anti-discrimination legislation.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate a wide range of programs that engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, schools, and communities; focus on raising aspirations, strengthening access to university, and supporting a culturally empowering transition into higher education.
  • Lead school and community engagement activities, on-campus and through outreach, and support the delivery of UOW's Indigenous Admissions Program.
  • Collaborate with the Future Student and Student Success teams at the Woolyungah Indigenous Centre (WIC) to shape communication strategies, build stakeholder relationships, run recruitment events, and create content that promotes student engagement.
  • Mentor a team of Indigenous Student Ambassadors, overseeing their recruitment, training, and coordination to ensure successful program delivery throughout the year.
Qualifications
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience; strong organisational and digital skills.
  • Strong cultural knowledge and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities; ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and communicate effectively with schools, families, and community organisations.
  • Experience in educational outreach and a demonstrated commitment to educational equity and community-led change.
Employment details
  • This position is based at the Wollongong campus and is not suitable for remote work.
  • The successful applicant will be required to hold and maintain a valid Australian Driver Licence.
  • A National Criminal History Check will be required prior to commencement.
  • A Working with Children Check will be required prior to commencement.
  • You must confirm your identity prior to commencement by providing proof of Aboriginality as per the Indigenous Employment Procedure.
