About the role:

The Principal Psychologist reports to the Group Manager, Wellbeing Services within the Health, Safety & Wellbeing Division, Human Resources Command, Victoria Police. This is a senior clinical position which provides clinical governance over numerous units, including the Police Psychology Unit, the Welfare Unit and the Medical Advisory Unit's psychological recruitment gateway. Wellbeing Services maintains a 24/7 Wellbeing Critical Incident and Crisis Response for the organisation and the Principal Psychologist contributes to this, including taking a senior role in the on-call roster.

The role provides high-level specialist advice across the organisation, is involved in the development and implementation of psychological and wellbeing related initiatives and contributes to the Health and Wellbeing Strategy and action plans for the organisation.

Your duties will include:

  • Clinical supervision of a multidisciplinary team, across diverse business units within the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Division and other areas of Victoria Police.
  • Providing leadership and oversight of the Clinical Governance Framework within Victoria Police, ensuring that all clinical services within the organisation and those provided by third party providers adhere to the Framework
  • Supporting the psychological selection process for new recruits and specialist units through strong understanding of psychometrics
  • Providing high-level advice and briefings for psychological and wellbeing related matters across the organisation.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of evidence-based strategies and initiatives, including group treatment programs to service Victoria Police employees
  • Ensure Victoria Police Wellbeing Services meets its obligations under the Health Records Act, including responding to Freedom of Information requests and subpoenas.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Registration with AHPRA as a psychologist. An endorsed area of practice in Clinical Psychology and Board Approved Supervisor status is required
  • Demonstrated record of achievement at a senior level in the development and successful implementation of organisational psychology management methods, frameworks and standards
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality clinical supervision to a multidisciplinary team of clinicians including for one-on-one treatment and group treatment programs
  • Expert knowledge of psychological health improvement strategies, policies, procedures and human resource trends
  • Expert knowledge in psychometric testing and interpretation, particularly in relation to candidate recruitment
  • Demonstrated experience at a senior level in the provision of strategic psychology services and facilitating significant organisational health improvement with effective negotiation, written and verbal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to present complex issues clearly and concisely.

Requirements and relevant information:

  • One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available.
  • VPSG 6.1 + 15% allowance (for on call duties).
  • This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
  • This position requires participation in an on-call roster as indicated in the Position Description (as attached to the advertisement).
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
