The APS 6 Knowledge Management Officer will report to the Assistant Director Research and Partnerships to support activities related to Defence's Health Research Governance framework.

Responsibilities include providing support in administration, governance, and business as usual activities. The role requires understanding research standards such as the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research and the National Statement on the Ethical Conduct of Human Research.

The officer will manage the Defence Health Research inbox, oversee workflow through the Defence Human Research Management System, and make independent decisions regarding research processes. This includes responding to research inquiries related to governance and providing procedural, clerical, and administrative support to ensure compliance with health research governance.

The position also involves secretariat support for the Defence Health Research Steering Group.

About our Team

The Directorate handles strategic Defence health research, including governance, support for research initiatives, and dissemination and translation of research findings. The team manages research priorities and collaborates with internal and external partners to design, deliver, and support health research for Joint Health Command.

The Directorate conducts, commissions, and facilitates health research, including data management, analysis, and reporting.

This role requires extensive experience in administration, research governance, and stakeholder engagement. The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of research conduct standards such as the Australian Code and National Statement.
  • Experience with administrative tasks, databases, and information systems in accordance with policies.
  • Positive stakeholder engagement skills, managing requests professionally.
  • Ability to interpret and comply with health research governance requirements, legislation, and procedures.
  • Teamwork skills, collaborating effectively with professionals and supporting team objectives.
  • Experience providing secretariat services to high-level committees or steering groups.
