Impact of the organisationThe Westmead Institute for Medical Research (WIMR), focuses on tackling real-world health challenges through research that leads to tangible clinical outcomes. Their work spans cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases, autoimmune diseases, and neurological conditions, with the goal of turning scientific breakthroughs into treatments that improve lives.
They specialise in precision medicine, leveraging advanced technologies such as gene and cell therapies, bacteriophage and plasmid therapies, islet transplantation, bioinformatics, regenerative medicine, and genomics.
Their discoveries progress to first-in-human clinical trials through partnerships with the Westmead Health Precinct and national collaborators, ensuring rapid translation into patient care. Beyond the clinic, they work closely with industry partners to bridge gaps in healthcare, ensuring that new therapies and innovations reach those who need them most, on a global scale.
Impact you will make in this roleAs the Senior Philanthropy Manager, you will be responsible for leading philanthropic growth and developing and implementing donor centric stewardship strategies that increase significant financial support and impact to meet strategic goals across the Philanthropy portfolio.
Reporting to the Head of Westmead Institute for Medical Research Foundation, you will work collaboratively with the Foundation team to develop and manage the Philanthropy program, with a focus on Major Gifts and Trust and Foundations.
We are searching for a donor centric senior fundraiser who can manage the development of the donor pipeline, researching key prospects, to engage and identify donors' critical priorities, building trust and confidence, ensuring long-term commitment to supporting the Institute's work.
Key Responsibilities- Developing and implementing fundraising strategies to secure and increase revenue across the Philanthropy and Trusts and Foundations programs
- Lead the development, and long-term growth of positive relationships with prospective and confirmed high value supporters, understanding each donors reason for giving, and aligning strong cases for support
- Developing and executing engagement and recognition strategies for all donors across the Philanthropy portfolio
- Working strategically with stakeholders to identify new donor prospects, and with key internal stakeholders, such as valued researchers and board members, in the development of relationships with donors to maximise their impact
- Ensuring a data-driven approach is in place for decision making, with emphasis on donor research and data integrity
- Researching and writing to secure philanthropic grants including using GEMS Grants Portal
- Proven success developing and implementing strategic fundraising initiatives with a focus on high-net-worth fundraising
- Experience prospecting, cultivating and leading strong and flourishing relationships with high-net-worth individuals, foundations, and other potential major donors
- Demonstrated success in managing a portfolio of major donors and foundations, and leading the identification of prospects, developing engagement strategies, securing gifts, and ensuring long-term stewardship of high value donors
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to craft compelling grant applications, donor proposals and tailored donor communications
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build authentic, confident, and enduring relationships with donors, researchers, senior executives, board members, and key institutional partners
- Experience designing and executing sophisticated donor cultivation activities and events, strategically leveraging limited resources to maximise engagement and outcomes
- Strong data analysis skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions that improve outcomes
- Excellent reporting skills with a strong ability to capture essential data that impacts relationship management and associated campaigns
- An influential and collaborative approach in building and maintaining relationships with all internal and external stakeholders at all levels
- Experience from a health-related environment desired
- A genuine passion to tackling real-world health challenges through research that leads to tangible improved health outcomes for all
