Information Lawyers - 3 month contract

We're looking for an experienced FOI lawyer to join a government legal team on a 4-month contract. You'll be advising on Freedom of Information matters, managing requests, drafting responses, and supporting internal stakeholders on disclosure obligations and exemptions. The role involves working closely with policy and legal teams to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and to help navigate complex FOI issues. Ideally a Canberra based position, however the client will consider Melbourne or Sydney.

Responsibilities
  • Advise on Freedom of Information matters and support disclosure obligations and exemptions
  • Manage FOI requests and draft responses
  • Collaborate with policy and legal teams to ensure compliance with relevant legislation
Qualifications
  • Solid experience in FOI law and public sector legal work
  • Strong drafting and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently
  • Familiarity with the Freedom of Information Act 1982 and related frameworks
