Here within our Maitland & Gateshead clinics, NSW, we have an exciting position available for a full-time Radiation Oncology Fellow.

The Radiation Oncology Fellow is responsible for the assessment and management of inpatient and outpatient cancer patients who may receive radiation therapy, and will collaborate with research teams and other specialists as part of an education initiative for doctor career development. The Fellow will work under the supervision of Radiation Oncologists and will be required to partake in clinical research as part of a structured development program.

The ideal candidate will have completed a minimum 4 years of accredited training in Radiation Oncology or other oncology specialty.

More specifically, you will:

  • Day to day management of Radiation Oncology outpatients under the direction or supervision of Radiation Oncologists
  • Assessment and formulation of a management plan for patients presenting for care
  • Participate in research activities either constructed through own initiative or through collaborations
  • Interpret and analyse data from research with a goal of publication and presentation
  • Develop your own specialty interests based on experience and mentorship provided in a professional team environment
  • Have the opportunity to observe leading edge treatments at other GenesisCare sites such as a Unity MRI Linac and/or Gammaknife
  • Partake in outreach clinic activities (if required)
  • Communicate assessment and management decisions to Radiation Oncologists, and other staff involved in the patients' care
  • Ensure that accurate and relevant patient documentation exists
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with other health professionals regarding management plans, diagnostic requests and consultations
  • Regular review of patient progress
  • Develop and execute a research project in collaboration with a supervising radiation oncologist and other key stakeholders
  • Manage unstable patients, ensuring adequate clinical handover during leave periods
  • Supervise students attached to the department
  • Maintain patient and organisation confidence by adhering to policy and procedure
  • Contribute to the team effort by assisting with team goals
  • Bring a positive, enthusiastic and 'can-do' attitude to work
  • Develop and maintain professional working relationships

We're looking for someone who has:

  • MBBS or equivalent, registered or eligible to be registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Completion of at least 4 years of accredited training in Radiation Oncology or other oncology specialty
  • Demonstrated Clinical Competency appropriate to level
  • Working towards completion of relevant College examinations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary team; involvement in continuous quality improvement
  • Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to demonstrate empathy for patients and their carers
  • Commitment to developing research skills and collaborating with other researchers
  • Demonstrated clinical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to plan and coordinate the clinical management of care
  • Commitment to and involvement in the application of quality improvement and evidence-based practice principles
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a team member
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
