Overview

Join to apply for the EL1 Assistant Director – Governance role at Administrative Review Tribunal. This is a full-time ongoing hybrid position located in multiple Australian cities (Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart, Melbourne, Sydney or Perth). The annual salary range is EL1 - $117,665 p.a. - $138,493 p.a., plus a generous employer superannuation contribution of 15.4%.

The Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) plays a crucial role in the Australian legal landscape by providing a process for independent review of decisions under a wide range of Commonwealth laws. We offer a supportive and inclusive work environment with flexible and diverse practices.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage governance frameworks, structures, processes and documentation to enable the Tribunal to meet performance objectives and manage risk in line with the Public Governance and Performance Accountability Act 2013.
  • Manage a small national team supporting the Tribunal's Audit and Risk Committee, oversee the internal audit function, and coordinate strategic and operational planning and reporting processes.
  • Oversee the Tribunal's risk management framework and establish other best-practice governance frameworks.
  • Coordinate governance activities across the organisation, ensuring compliance with legislative and policy obligations and effective stakeholder engagement.
Qualifications and experience
  • Proven ability to operate strategically and autonomously to deliver projects and outcomes that advance legislative, policy and organisational objectives.
  • Highly developed communication skills with the ability to negotiate and provide strategic advice on complex issues.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and manage sensitivities to achieve results.
  • Proven leadership and management skills, with the ability to coordinate competing priorities, develop team capability and support staff.
  • Extensive knowledge of Australian Government risk and governance requirements, or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.
  • Understanding of the ART's operations, structure, and legislative/policy framework, or the ability to rapidly develop this understanding.
  • Australian Citizenship is a requirement; a security clearance may be applicable.
  • All employees are required to undertake an Australian Federal Police Check and a Health Assessment.
Desirable
  • Relevant qualifications, training or APS experience in governance.
