Construction Design Manager

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Construction Design Manager. In this role, you will lead and manage all design-related activities across multiple large-scale construction projects, ensuring that all design work is executed in accordance with project specifications, contractual obligations, and regulatory standards. You will work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure efficient, timely, and cost-effective project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate design activities across multiple construction projects to ensure compliance with specifications, contracts, and applicable regulations.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders—including project managers, architects, engineers, and contractors—to facilitate smooth project delivery.
  • Develop and manage project design schedules and budgets, providing regular progress updates and flagging potential issues to senior management.
  • Review project specifications and contractual documents to identify design requirements, constraints, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead resolution of design-related issues throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure accurate, organized, and up-to-date design documentation and records.
  • Manage the full design process including initiation, development, review, coordination, and final approval.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management, or Engineering
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience in design management within the construction industry
  • Current experience with a Head Contractor is essential
  • Proven experience delivering large-scale construction projects, ideally in the health and/or defence sectors
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Thorough understanding of construction contracts, codes, and regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency in construction project management software and tools
  • Familiarity with building codes and industry standards
