Little Wings is a leading not-for-profit organisation supporting NSW/ACT and QLD regional families and their seriously ill children by providing free and safe air and ground transportation to and from Children's Hospitals in Sydney, Brisbane and Newcastle and home again. Little Wings is a charity flight service owner-operator in the aviation industry that meets or exceeds all of the CASA safety regulations. Little Wings also operates a fleet of 4 Beechcraft Baron Aircraft, 1 Navajo and modern Hyundai vehicles for safe and comfortable return transfers from Bankstown, Archerfield and Cessnock airports or the metro airports to the Children\'s Hospitals. The Little Wings organisation relies upon its loyal core of volunteer pilots and drivers to deliver service excellence. Our vision is for every child regardless of geographical location to receive rapid and easy access to specialised medical services.

The Head of Flight Operations position is responsible for managing our volunteer pilots (recruitment, training and scheduling), overseeing the flight schedule and working closely with our Operations Manager to ensure safe and timely transport. We are looking for someone passionate and motivated to champion our mission and support families from regional and rural NSW, the ACT and QLD as they care for their sick child. We need someone hardworking, charismatic, and dedicated to working with purpose every day. The role works closely with our Safety Officer, Head of Aircraft Maintenance and Operations Manager. This position does demand a pilot with a minimum of 1000 hours flying time.

Responsibilities
  • Implementation, training, and development of Air Maestro online safety management system and the Takeflite booking system.
  • Manage aircraft maintenance and movements in partnership with Head of Aircraft Maintenance.
  • Oversee flight scheduling for volunteers in partnership with the Operations Manager.
  • Prepare monthly operations board reporting.
  • Assist with financial budgeting, analysis, and forecast of flights.
  • Volunteer pilot recruitment, management, and retention.
  • Chair quarterly operational team meetings.
  • Ensure safe working practices are adhered to including incident and hazard reporting.

Required qualifications
  • Working with children check.
  • Current driver\u2019s license and clean driving history.
  • Police check or Red ASIC.
  • 1000 hours flight time.
  • 100 hours instrument time.
