Overview

Our client, a prominent Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation dedicated to improving Indigenous mental health, is looking for an experienced Research Psychologist to lead research initiatives that will make a real difference in Indigenous communities. This role is ideal for a highly motivated individual with a strong background in research and a passion for driving change in Indigenous mental health, suicide prevention, and criminogenic research.

Responsibilities
  • Lead complex data analysis projects, including psychometric test validation and structural equation modeling (SEM) using Mplus and other advanced statistical software
  • Collaborate on Indigenous-specific research methodologies to design, execute, and evaluate culturally responsive mental health treatments and interventions
  • Contribute to scholarly publications, conference presentations, and technical reports that share insights with both Indigenous and non-Indigenous sectors
  • Support grant applications and research funding efforts to ensure the sustainability of vital Indigenous-focused research initiatives
  • Provide expert guidance on psychometric analysis, research design, and statistical modeling, mentoring research officers and Indigenous psychology scholarship recipients (from undergraduates to PhD candidates)
  • Collaborate with Indigenous communities and partner organisations to co-design culturally safe research that addresses data gaps and aims to improve outcomes in suicide prevention, child removal, and justice systems
Qualifications
  • A passion for mentoring the next generation of researchers
  • Masters degree in Psychology (or equivalent qualifications)
  • Proven experience in psychometric validation, statistical modelling (including SEM), and working with large datasets
  • A commitment to culturally appropriate research practices, with a focus on community engagement, cultural safety protocols, and ethical governance
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across sectors and represent the organisation at academic and professional forums
  • Specialisation in Indigenous mental health, suicide prevention, and criminogenic research experience working with ACCHOs and Indigenous communities is highly desirable
