About the role
As a Clinical Coder, you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of patient health records, working closely with clinicians and the coding team. In this role, you will:
Apply your coding expertise by reviewing patient records (paper and electronic), accurately allocating ICD-10-AM and ACHI codes, and assigning DRGs using Solventum Coding and Grouping software, in line with Australian Coding Standards and NSW Health guidelines.
Work collaboratively with health professionals to clarify diagnoses and procedures, ensuring patient privacy and confidentiality is maintained at all times.
Contribute to quality and compliance through coding audits, HACs reviews, clinical reviews, as well as maintaining PICQ and RISQ indicators.
Support continuous improvement and innovation by staying up to date with coding developments, implementing new practices from IHACPA/NSW Health, and actively participating in quality initiatives such as EQUIP.
Grow and share your expertise by assisting with training new coders, answering coding queries, and contributing to weekly clinician–coder meetings.
About you
We're looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Clinical Coder who is passionate about accuracy and quality in health information. To succeed in this role, you will bring:
Formal qualifications in clinical coding – completion of a recognised coding course (HIMAA, OTEN) or a relevant tertiary qualification in Health Information Management, with proven coding experience.
Demonstrated expertise in ICD-10-AM coding with a strong knowledge of Australian Coding Standards and medical terminology.
Proficiency in coding systems and technology, including Solventum Coding and Grouping software, along with strong computer skills.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clinicians and colleagues.
A proactive and flexible approach, able to work both independently and as part of a supportive team, with strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
