This is a unique opportunity to lead government relations and policy for a trusted and national not-for-profit organisation delivering vital health services across rural and remote Australia.

As Head of Government Relations & Policy, you will lead the strategic development and delivery of the organisation's policy agenda, government engagement strategy and advocacy efforts, and the operationalising and effective management of key government contracts.

About the Role
  • Provide strategic advice to the CEO and Federation Board on political, policy and regulatory developments
  • Build and maintain strong, constructive relationships with Ministers, Parliamentarians, departmental officials, peak bodies, and partner organisations
  • Manage key federal government contracts. Highlighting the organisation as a credible and proven partner in the delivery of its major contracts
  • Work within the Federated structure, engaging closely with State Sections on working groups and committees
  • Oversee the development of national policy positions and advocacy campaigns working closely with State Sections
  • Represent the organisation in national policy and funding discussions
  • Oversee national strategic projects such as the Reconciliation Action Plan
  • Build and lead a small, high performing team
About You
  • Significant senior experience in public affairs, policy or government relations, ideally in Canberra
  • Strong strategic thinking and policy analysis skills
  • Demonstrated ability to influence government and develop evidence-based policy submissions
  • Strong understanding of federal government budget processes and policy making
  • Experience managing large contracts and risk/compliance processes
  • Excellent strategic thinking, negotiation, communication and analytical skills
  • Values-based with high level of integrity and a genuine belief in service
Desirable
  • Understanding of rural affairs and/ or health policy
  • Experience developing policy in a federated or member-based organisation
