Bondi Partners is looking for a Government Relations and Communications Associate to join our fast-growing strategic advisory firm at the critical intersection of policy, politics, and the private sector.
Founded by the former Australian Ambassador to the United States and Australian Treasurer, and headquartered in Washington D.C. and Sydney, our work is primarily focused on supporting and strengthening commercial relationships across the U.S., Australia, the U.K. and Japan. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic team with a track record of working with C-suite executives and boards to deliver breakthrough results.
Reporting to the Director of Government Relations – Australia, the Government Relations and Communications Associate will support government relations at the federal and state levels for Bondi Partners in Australia. Additionally, the position will support the firm's internal and external communications, while also directly contributing to client projects.
To be successful in this role, you should be proactive, able to manage multiple competing priorities, and adept at managing both upwards and downwards to keep client work, research and communications projects on track. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential to all aspects of the role.
This is primarily an in-office position, and the ideal candidate should also be flexible to accommodate occasional after-hours events. However, during non-peak times, there is flexibility to work from home one day per week.
Bondi Partners is apolitical, and the candidate must be able to engage effectively with stakeholders across the political spectrum.
Responsibilities
Government Relations & Policy Analysis:
- Provide analysis, recommendations and feedback on complex international and domestic issues, legislation, regulations, policies and trends.
- Support the design and implementation of targeted and cut-through government affairs and advocacy strategies.
- Conduct policy research, prepare summaries, briefs, talking points, and other materials to support advocacy efforts.
- Assist in planning and executing government affairs campaigns, events, and outreach activities.
- Proactively build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders, officials, thought leaders, media representatives, industry associations and other public policy stakeholders, regardless of their political affiliation.
- Monitor, advise, and engage on the changing political landscapes at the federal and state levels.
- Actively monitor, synthesise and share global media commentary, analysis and think tank publications relevant to the Bondi Group's clients and key areas of expertise around critical industries.
- Assist in preparing and presenting client-facing reports, briefings and other research and/ analytical materials.
Communications Support:
- Provide strategic communications support across the strategic advisory, lobbying and investment arms of the business, including supporting speeches and other public-facing activities.
- Draft and provide editorial support for a range of products for both internal and client communications materials, including newsletters, press releases, reports, webpages, social media, and video.
- Update, maintain and ensure consistent branding of Bondi Group external communications collateral, including ensuring dynamic updates to the website, slide decks and other collateral materials.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably in a relevant area such as Political Science, International Relations, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of professional experience required.
- Experience in media, government relations, public affairs, and external communications.
- Preference to be located in Canberra, but Sydney will be considered.
- Authorised to work in Australia.

- Meaningful curiosity about global economic and policy trends within Australia and the broader geopolitical environment.
- Strong understanding of Australian and international politics.
- Strong, demonstrated writing and analytical skills, with experience in public policy writing or journalism.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, with a demonstrated ability to think proactively and prioritise work.
