Discipleship Specialist – Family Accompaniment

East Melbourne

Overview

Are you passionate about accompanying families in their faith journey? Are you inspired by a Church that cherishes marriage, welcomes children, and walks with every family as they grow in discipleship? We are seeking a Discipleship Specialist – Family Accompaniment to help build a culture of discipleship with and through families across the Archdiocese of Melbourne.

About the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne (CAM)

The Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne (CAM) serves over 1.1 million Catholics, making it the largest Archdiocese in Australia. Guided by the Archbishop's missionary focus, our ministries and agencies equip parishes, families, young adults, and the most vulnerable with pastoral, educational, and social welfare support.

About the opportunity

The Discipleship Specialist – Family Accompaniment will play a vital role in building a culture of discipleship with and through families across the Archdiocese of Melbourne. Reporting to the Discipleship Coordinator, you will bring leadership, creativity, and pastoral experience to support local communities in forming families of faith and accompanying couples preparing for marriage. Whether you're a former catechist, a children's ministry leader, a parent, or someone who's already been leading others into a relationship with Jesus—you'll bring your gifts into a team committed to seeing families and children encounter Christ and grow as missionary disciples.

Responsibilities
  • Support, resource and empower parishes and communities in developing vibrant models of marriage and family discipleship
  • Build and lead networks for catechists, sacramental teams, and children's ministry leaders
  • Inspire and equip parents to nurture their children's faith with confidence and joy
  • Work alongside parish and community leaders in building cultures that welcome, include, and accompany families in all stages of life
  • Develop engaging resources and formation pathways for marriage prep and lifelong family faith
  • Champion the missionary vocation of families—helping them encounter, grow in, and share Christ
  • Collaborate closely with the wider Proclaim team to drive shared mission outcomes across the Archdiocese
What You'll Bring
  • You have, or are working toward a tertiary qualification in theology, religious education, ministry or a related field
  • You have demonstrated experience in Catholic ministry with couples and/or families
  • You have a strong personal faith and a heart for mission
  • You have an understanding of discipleship models in a Catholic context
Why work for us?
  • Professional Environment: Join a dedicated team of professionals committed to fostering an agile and inspiring work environment
  • Location: Our offices are conveniently located adjacent to St. Patrick's Cathedral, just a 5-minute walk from Parliament Station
  • Meaningful Work: Be part of a mission-driven not-for-profit organisation that makes a difference in the community. Your work will support the goals and vision of CAM, contributing to the greater good
  • Benefits: We offer a hybrid working model, employee assistance program to support your health and wellbeing and a staff discount program from Day 1
How to Apply

If you believe your skills and experience align with this position, we would love to hear from you. To submit an application, please click apply and provide a copy of your current resume and a cover letter. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so please apply as soon as possible. Employment is subject to satisfactory background checks including National Police Check, Working with Children Check and Reference Checks. You must hold valid working rights in Australia.

The Archdiocese is committed to the safety, wellbeing, and dignity of all children and vulnerable adults.
