Transport Safety (Road Design/ Traffic) - Senior to Principal Professionals at NTRO - National Transport Research Organisation. NTRO strives to be an innovation portal enabling government and industry outcomes across all modes of transport, through research, knowledge creation, and expert advice to transport agencies and industry to support safe, sustainable, and efficient networks.
Two full-time positions are available in Melbourne and Sydney for creative problem-solvers who want to play a key role in transforming infrastructure for a safer future.
Responsibilities- Undertake research and implementation projects for international, federal, state, and local government agencies.
- Apply first principles thinking to projects and provide innovative solutions to a wide range of clients.
- Challenge the status quo in road asset engineering, vehicle technology, human factors, and societal culture as they affect road safety outcomes.
- Be aware of infrastructure risk assessments related to transport safety across Road, Rail, Ports, and Airports.
- Support or lead the delivery of research and/or advisory projects for clients.
- Project manage all technical aspects of research and advisory projects under your control.
- Develop and support the implementation of new and effective transport safety policies and technical guidance for industry practitioners.
- Develop new and foster existing client relationships to grow advisory and research-based projects and programs.
- Represent NTRO through publicising NTRO's work in public forums and technical publications.
- Engineering or Science degree. A Master's in Engineering or a higher research degree (Master's, Doctorate) is an advantage.
- 10+ years of experience within the transport industry, including consultancy or local government and transport agencies.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a portfolio of research and/or advisory projects for clients.
- Contrarian/scientific mindset that thrives on challenging accepted practice where outcomes warrant it.
- Technical knowledge in transport safety and expert at first principles thinking to approach solutions.
- Expertise in the application of engineering practices, road safety, and road design guidelines and standards applicable within the Australian/New Zealand context.
- Strong project delivery experience with the ability to balance accountabilities across multiple projects.
- Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, interpersonal, and project management skills.
- Strong ability to engage with clients to develop ongoing programs of work and build future opportunities for NTRO.
