Position Information

The NSW Department of Education provides, funds and regulates education services for NSW students from early childhood to secondary school, delivering world-class education through its public schools and providing funding support to non-government schools. We employ, develop and support teachers, leaders and other staff to deliver the best outcomes for students and to advance the wellbeing of Aboriginal people.

About the Role

This role is vital to the maintenance and upkeep of departmental schools.

To be successful in the role you will need to have good planning and prioritising skills and good communication skills to work effectively with others.

You will perform a range of tasks relating to the routine maintenance and upkeep of a Departmental School/grounds. The role may assist with the set up and removal of furniture and equipment for school activities. You will identify and report maintenance and safety issues. You will receive, store and distribute supplies and monitor equipment and report faults.

The Highlands School is a School for Specific Purpose (SSP), is situated on 12 Acres in Gundungurra Country, and pays respect to the Gundungurra people, the traditional custodians of the land on which the school is located.

The school focuses on Positive Education and is located in a semi-rural setting in Renwick, near Mittagong in the Southern Highlands. The school has a current enrolment capacity of 42 students (21 identified BD, 21 MC), from schools in Wingecarribee Shire and Wollondilly in Years 5-12 who exhibit challenging behaviours, emotional disturbance and/or autism spectrum disorders and the effects of adverse childhood experiences. Our students are placed at the school through a Regional Placement Panel held once per term into one of our six classes.

The school is well-resourced with a science laboratory, working industrial kitchen and cafe, basketball court, school hall, playing field, music room, art room and a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) laboratory.

The School has multiple grassed areas, including a top class Football (Soccer) Field which is hired out for use by Clubs in local Competitions. The role includes maintenance of these areas as well as general grounds upkeep, small repairs and other duties described in the Role Description. Hours are negotiable but may consist of three 5 Hour Days.
