About This Role

Utilise your Community Services expertise to provide support and advice to the Victim Services Support and Reform branch. This is an ongoing, full-time opportunity to work with a high-performing and passionate team in the Victorian Public Service.

About The Business Unit

Victim Services, Support and Reform (VSSR) is part of the Police, Racing, Victims and Coordination (PRVC) group in the Department of Justice and Community Safety. VSSR coordinates services for victims of crime, providing information and support to help manage the effects of crime and guide victims through the criminal justice system. The Restorative Justice for Victims of Crime program delivers restorative justice service options to victim survivors of family violence, including support for youth in Youth Justice Group Conferencing.

The Role

The Specialist Support Worker will work collaboratively with other staff and service providers to deliver trauma-informed restorative justice options to victim survivors of family violence.

Some Of Your Duties Will Include
  • Providing trauma-informed support to eligible victim survivors of family violence and others participating in victim-centred restorative justice processes
  • Responding to new enquiries, conducting eligibility assessments, completing client intake processes, assessing participant risk, safety and well-being needs, including ongoing identification and management of family violence risk consistent with MARAM and Information Sharing responsibilities
  • Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate and provide the support necessary for persons harmed and persons responsible to safely participate in the restorative process
Qualifications/Requirements
  • A relevant tertiary qualification (such as psychology, social work or human services) and/or a minimum of 2 years practice in a related field (such as family violence support, men's behaviour change or similar) is required
  • A thorough understanding of restorative justice practice, theories and processes
  • A strong understanding of issues and risks in restorative processes, including trauma-informed therapeutic approaches and reflective practice
  • Highly-developed skills and experience in identifying, assessing and managing family violence risk consistent with MARAM
