About the Business Unit:

Victim Services, Support and Reform (VSSR) is part of the Police, Racing, Victims and Coordination (PRVC) group in the Department of Justice and Community Safety and is responsible for coordinating a suite of services for victims of crime that provide information and support to help manage the effects of crime and guide victims through the criminal justice system across Victoria. VSSR leads the development, design and implementation of innovative service responses to victims of crime in the criminal justice system.

The Restorative Justice for Victims of Crime program delivers restorative justice service options to victim survivors of family violence through the FVRJ Service. It is responsible for the design and implementation of ways to support victims of crime to participate in restorative justice processes. This includes support for victims of crime to participate in Youth Justice Group Conferencing.

About the Role:

The Specialist Support Worker will work collaboratively with other staff and service providers to deliver trauma-informed restorative justice options to victim survivors of family violence.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Providing trauma informed support to eligible victim survivors of family violence and others participating in victim centred restorative justice processes
  • Responding to new enquiries, conducting eligibility assessments, completing client intake processes, assessing participant risk, safety and well-being needs including ongoing identification and management of family violence risk consistent with Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management Framework (MARAM) and Information Sharing responsibilities
  • Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate and providing the support necessary for persons harmed and persons responsible to safely and effectively participate in the restorative process.

A Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and an Australian Entitlement to Work Check is a requirement for all DJCS positions, and these checks require identification, documents of either a passport or birth certificate. This role is subject to a Working with Children's Check.

About You:

As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • A strong understanding of issues and risks associated with the complexity and sensitivity of working within restorative processes, including trauma-informed therapeutic approaches and reflective practice
  • Practical specialist experience and knowledge of the nature, dynamics and impacts of family violence, trauma and working with people who have caused harm
  • A thorough understanding of restorative justice practice, theories and processes
  • Highly-developed skills and experience in identifying, assessing and managing family violence risk consistent with MARAM.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification (such as psychology, social work or human services) and/or a minimum of 2 years practice in a related field (such as family violence support, men's behaviour change or similar) is required.
