Expression of Interest: Infrastructure Architect (RFI-03152)

Azooa — a 100% Australian owned and operated digital consultancy — is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) for a senior Infrastructure Architect role as part of our response to RFI-03152 for the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO).

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the secure transformation of national energy systems by architecting scalable, compliant, and modern infrastructure solutions in support of critical infrastructure initiatives.

About the Role

This role is central to Azooa's proposed delivery for RFI-03152, which involves the migration of AEMO's legacy colocation data centres to new, secure facilities. As an Infrastructure Architect, you'll provide the strategic and technical leadership necessary to define and validate infrastructure designs that meet enterprise architecture principles, regulatory compliance (particularly SOCI), and OT/IT integration standards.

You will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams, including Cyber Security, Enterprise Architects, Operational Technology (OT) specialists, and Federal Government stakeholders.

Lead the development of scalable, secure infrastructure blueprints across:

Storage (Pure Storage)
Virtualisation (VMware vSphere)
Database Environments (Oracle, SQL Server – context awareness)

Deliver High-Level Designs (HLDs) and Low-Level Designs (LLDs) in compliance with AEMO standards, security obligations, and availability requirements.

2. Technical Leadership

Act as the primary infrastructure architect throughout project phases:

Design and architecture planning
Build and implementation
Migration and cutover
Hypercare and post-go-live validation

Provide architectural guidance to internal engineering teams and vendors. Ensure fidelity to strategic blueprints and alignment with enterprise-level principles.

3. Documentation & Quality Assurance

Produce high-quality architectural artefacts including:

HLDs, LLDs, As-built Documentation
Migration Readiness and Execution Plans
Technical Standards and Patterns

Review and validate external design inputs from vendors and partners. Maintain consistency across project deliverables.

4. Stakeholder Engagement

Enterprise Architects, Project Managers, Cyber Security, OT stakeholders, and Business SMEs
Government and Regulatory Bodies for architecture reviews

Influence and align stakeholders through concise design communication and engagement in cross-functional forums.

5. Migration & Transformation Support

Contribute to the end-to-end migration planning process, including:

Infrastructure readiness assessments
Operational transition planning

Ensure secure and resilient integration between Operational Technology (OT) and Enterprise IT environments.

Pure Storage (SAN/NAS)
VMware vSphere (Virtualisation)
Awareness of enterprise database environments (Oracle, SQL Server)
Proven experience in government or large-enterprise infrastructure transformation
Familiarity with various cutover methodologies, rollback strategies, and Disaster Recovery planning

Security & Compliance

Sound understanding of SOCI Act, Risk Management Programs (RMPs), and physical/cybersecurity standards for critical infrastructure
Exposure to DISP membership requirements and ISO 27001
Strong capability in documenting technical designs, architectures, and operational procedures
Excellent written and verbal communication for diverse stakeholder groups

Qualifications & Certifications

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline

Preferred Certifications:

VMware Certified Professional (VCP/VCAP)
ITIL v4 Foundation

Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) principles and toolsets such as Ansible, Terraform, etc.

Awareness of Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) standards

Experience working with Operational Technology (OT) systems and integration protocols (e.g. SCADA, Modbus, DNP3)

Understanding of Agile/Hybrid delivery models and DevOps culture
