Overview

STAND-ALONE PAYROLL OFFICER - $95/100K S - WFH 2 DAYS SYD/NEWCASTLE OR BRISSIE

Our client, Bendigo Advertiser, is seeking an experienced payroll specialist to take sole ownership of end-to-end payroll processes for approx. 300 employees. This is a standalone role within a collaborative HR environment, with offices in Sydney, Newcastle and Brisbane. The role offers flexibility with 1–2 days work from home, flexible hours within a 38-hour week, and four wellbeing days per year, plus additional benefits and development opportunities.

Responsibilities
  • Own end-to-end payroll for ~300 employees, including processing, auditing, and timekeeping
  • Maintain accuracy in payroll data, awards, taxation, and multi-state requirements
  • Audit payroll systems and ensure confidentiality and data integrity
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and other teams to support payroll-related processes
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
  • Provide payroll backup support during team leave as part of a supportive HR team
Requirements
  • 5+ years' experience managing end-to-end payroll for ~300+ employees
  • Strong Excel skills (including VLOOKUP and PivotTables)
  • Solid understanding of multi-state payroll, awards, legislation, and taxation
  • Experience auditing payroll and timekeeping systems
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines
  • Clear, professional communication and ability to partner with HR, Finance, and other teams
  • Proactive mindset with a focus on process improvement
