The RMIT UP Foundation Studies Program consists of courses comparable in standard to an Australian Year 12 curriculum. It is nationally recognised as a program that equips international students with the skills and capabilities to seek entry into higher education programs in Australia. This program is designed to prepare students for a seamless transition into a range of higher education programs. It develops a mix of discipline knowledge, academic English, and study skills in a supportive, flexible and learner-centred environment. It aims to assist students to become independent, critical and lifelong learners and to maximise their potential for success in an Australian university context.

What You Will Do – About the Role

You will be responsible for the teaching delivery of RMIT UP's Foundation Studies Psychology course. Duties include assessment, monitoring academic progress of students, contributing to the development of the Foundation Studies curriculum, and providing an outstanding student experience. This course introduces Foundation STEM students to Psychology as a systematic study of thoughts, feelings and behaviour with an emphasis on developing analytical and problem-solving skills.

Key Subject Themes Include
  • Understanding the structure and function of the brain and nervous system; analysing the impact of stress on the body
  • Consciousness, sleep, and effects of sleep disruption on functioning
  • Concepts of mental health including phobia management approaches
  • Research, analytical and reporting methods related to investigation of mental processes and psychological functioning

What We Are Looking For – About You

To be successful you will have:

Essential
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in delivering and assessing Foundation Studies or equivalent courses
  • Experience in relevant industry and substantial discipline knowledge related to this position
  • Capacity to identify learning problems in students, propose and implement effective strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively as a constructive and proactive team member
  • Demonstrated ICT skills
  • Current Working with Children Check (or VIT registration)
  • A recognised degree relevant to the course being taught plus: formal qualification in education delivery OR minimum two years' relevant teaching experience, including breadth of experience with non-English speaking backgrounds
  • For teachers primarily responsible for academic English language subject areas: recognised degree, English language teaching qualification, and 2 years ESL/EFL teaching experience
Desirable
  • Experience teaching in Foundation Studies or Year 12 equivalent programs for international students
  • Experience teaching in a tertiary setting
  • TESOL (TEFL) qualification for non-English subject areas
  • Proven collegiality and ability to share ideas
  • Knowledge of current pedagogical practices
