The Opportunity:

Urbis has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Director to join our growing Heritage team in Sydney

As a trusted Heritage advisor, you will have the opportunity to partner with clients on a range of projects. You will also be a key member of the Heritage management team and will play a lead role in supporting staff development through on-the-job coaching and mentoring and overall solid people management and leadership skills.

You will:

  1. Providing expert heritage, architecture, fabric and statutory planning advice to clients;
  2. Achievement of revenue targets that comprise both Personal Fees and Work Under Management, through strong service delivery and project management;
  3. Assisting with forecasting, project budgeting and financial management;
  4. Supporting the delivery of strategic Heritage projects and other national initiatives;
  5. Supporting the Heritage Directors and team in the delivery of projects;
  6. With others, providing technical and management support to the Heritage team (and staff members) on a day-to-day basis, ensuring committed projects are, and remain, commercially viable;
  7. Supporting Directors to achieve 'whole-of-office' business plan outcomes, in conjunction with other Business Units;
  8. Proactively identify opportunities to engage and work collaboratively with colleagues from other disciplines and Business Units across Sydney and the broader firm on cross-disciplinary projects;
  9. Generating new work and sustained and profitable business performance, through the maintenance of, and building upon, existing and potential client relationships and professional networks, across a range of industry sectors;
  10. Nurturing and developing individual staff members, through effective coaching and mentoring.

About you:

  1. Tertiary qualifications in Architecture/Heritage or related area.
  2. Relevant experience, ideally gained in a consultancy environment.
  3. Experience in on-the-job coaching and mentoring of others.
  4. Experience with business development activities, including winning new or repeat business.
  5. Strong written (including report writing) and verbal communication skills.
  6. Demonstrates ability to confidently lead complex proposals and tenders.
  7. Demonstrates ability to resolve issues directly with clients and deliver projects dealing with complex heritage issues.
  8. Demonstrates an advanced appreciation of Australian historical architecture and building fabric.
  9. Demonstrates an advanced understanding of and ability to apply heritage principles, the Burra charter and statutory legislation relevant to each state, to resolve and advise on projects.
