We are looking for a proactive and experienced SMSF accountant with 4+ years of practical experience in a leading accounting firm to join our dynamic and growing team.

In this role, you'll manage a portfolio of SMSF clients, provide expert advisory, and ensure compliance across all aspects of SMSF administration. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate closely with Partners, Directors, and Managers, sharpening your leadership skills and technical expertise while being supported in your professional development.

Blaze Acumen is a leading Accounting Firm based along Southbank, with 8 Partners and approximately 65+ staff, you will be supported in a team-oriented environment with dedicated coaching. You will be given the autonomy to apply your experience while continuing to grow through structured training, mentoring, and career development programs.

About The Role

• SMSF Portfolio Management: Manage and administer a portfolio of SMSF clients, ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely reporting. Prepare financial statements, tax returns, and audit documentation for SMSFs, and review work prepared by junior staff to ensure quality and compliance.
• Compliance & Regulatory Expertise: Apply your strong knowledge of SMSF regulations and compliance requirements to deliver accurate outcomes and ensure clients remain aligned with legislative obligations. Stay informed on industry changes and contribute to process improvements.
• Strategic SMSF Advisory: Assist in delivering practical and strategic advice on SMSF matters including contributions, pensions, and investment strategies. Support clients in achieving their long-term financial goals through tailored SMSF solutions.
• Client Interaction & Development: Build on your client-facing experience. Liaise confidently with clients, auditors, and stakeholders, taking the lead in key interactions and providing a consistent, professional client experience.
• Team Collaboration & Mentoring: Work closely with Partners, Directors, and Managers in a supportive team environment. Mentor junior staff, contribute to team initiatives, and assist in developing internal processes that drive efficiency and client service.
• Continued Learning & Growth: Continue progressing with your CA qualifications (if not already completed) and take advantage of frequent training opportunities, both technical and practical. Expand your knowledge and leadership potential as part of our long-term development focus.

What You Will Bring

• Proven Practical Experience: 4+ years of hands-on experience in accounting and tax compliance for SMSF clients within a public practice or similar environment. You have a solid foundation in SMSF accounting and are confident managing a portfolio of funds independently.
• Client Engagement & Communication: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders. You proactively manage expectations, explain complex matters clearly, and deliver a strong client experience through responsiveness and relationship-building.
• Technical Proficiency: Solid working knowledge of SMSF legislation and compliance, with experience in preparing SMSF accounts and tax returns. Proficiency with BGL360 and familiarity with SMSF Class administration software is desirable.
• Team Collaboration & Leadership: A team player who contributes to a positive culture. You have begun mentoring junior staff or leading small projects and are ready to take on more responsibility as a developing leader.
• Professional Integrity & Accountability: A reliable and ethical approach to your work. You handle sensitive financial information with discretion and take ownership of your responsibilities, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Organisation & Problem Solving: Strong time management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. You approach challenges with a solution-oriented mindset that supports team and client outcomes.
