Overview

I am helping my client, an established Brisbane‑based engineering business find a skilled Electrical Switchboard Designer to strengthen their delivery team.

In this hands-on role you'll interpret client specifications, produce accurate electrical layouts and support both production and procurement with your technical expertise—ensuring each switchboard meets compliance, safety, and budget requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Design & Draft: Develop comprehensive switchboard drawings (schematics, wiring, GA diagrams) using AutoCAD Electrical and SolidWorks.
  • Component Selection: Specify breakers, contactors, relays, metering, enclosures and other critical components to suit each project's needs.
  • Standards Compliance: Ensure every design aligns with AS/NZS 61439, AS/NZS 3000, and relevant client standards.
  • Project Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, production teams, and procurement to keep technical deliverables on track.
  • Quality Assurance: Support FAT/SAT testing, risk assessments, and design reviews—incorporating feedback to refine outputs.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline design workflows, update standard assemblies, and expand the in-house knowledge base.
Qualifications
  • Qualified & Experienced: Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) with 3–5 years in LV panel or switchboard design.
  • Software Savvy: Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical (or similar) and SolidWorks for both 2D and 3D design.
  • Standards Specialist: Strong working knowledge of Australian electrical regulations and manufacturing compliance.
  • Collaborative Communicator: Able to liaise effectively with cross-functional teams and present confidently to clients.
  • Detail-Oriented & Organized: Excellent documentation habits, able to juggle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Fast-Paced Adaptability: Comfortable working in a dynamic, customer-driven manufacturing environment.
