About the TeamThe Digital Engagement and Transformation (DET) team supports the Digital Group by fostering a culture of innovation, efficiency, and excellence within the Commission's Digital & ICT operations by identifying, assessing, and implementing opportunities for ongoing improvement that support the Commission's ability to deliver against its business objectives.
The Digital Learning Team, within the DET team, is responsible for developing and delivering learning solutions to educate Commission staff on technical tools, systems, software, or processes. We create learning materials including online learning manuals, guides, videos, and presentations, and conduct training sessions, workshops and webinars. Our goal is to ensure that staff have the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively utilise technical resources and tools in their roles. Additionally, we provide ongoing support and resources to reinforce learning.
About the RoleThe Digital Learning Design Lead is responsible for leading the creative direction and design of inclusive, high-quality digital learning experiences across the Commission. The role blends advanced graphic design expertise with a strong understanding of adult learning and instructional design.
Applying Learning Experience Design (LxD) principles, the Digital Learning Design Lead creates learner-centred solutions aligned with business objectives, accessibility standards, and organisational branding. By combining strategic learning analysis with hands-on creative execution, the role ensures that outcomes are instructionally sound, visually compelling, and highly effective.
As a senior creative advisor, the Digital Learning Design Lead supports team capability uplift, collaborative design practice, and quality assurance, working closely with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and Digital Learning Team members. The role operates with a high degree of autonomy, setting creative direction and providing design leadership across all digital learning initiatives, ensuring alignment with broader enterprise-wide design standards and stakeholder expectations.
Position Duties- Lead the creative direction and end-to-end delivery of digital learning solutions that are visually compelling, instructionally sound, and aligned with organisational goals
- Design assessment structures, learning pathways and interactive activities that drive engagement, knowledge transfer and measurable learner outcomes.
- Shape the overall learning experience by developing instructional design artefacts (e.g. briefs, scripts, storyboards, mock-ups) that integrate visual thinking and learning design principles.
- Produce impactful graphic and multimedia assets, including infographics, diagrams, iconography, layouts, presentations, video, and animation.
- Maintain consistency and brand integrity by applying organisational style guides and design standards across all learning assets.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders to co-design structured, outcomes-based learning experiences that present complex content in accessible and engaging formats.
- Provide creative and instructional direction to developers, designers and content contributors to ensure cohesive and high-quality outputs.
- Support both digital and in-person learning programs through blended learning strategies and multimedia formats tailored to learner needs.
- Lead multiple design projects with autonomy, ensuring quality assurance, alignment with timelines, and delivery of agreed outcomes.
- Contribute to team capability uplift by mentoring colleagues, sharing design expertise, and modelling professionalism, integrity and APS values.
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following:
- Expertise in leading the visual design of accessible, inclusive digital learning experiences aligned with organisational objectives.
- Advanced proficiency in industry-standard design tools (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite – Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere).
- Strong ability to translate complex ideas into clear, engaging visual and instructional outputs that support learner success.
- High capability in visual communication, layout design and information visualisation across both digital and print formats.
- Sound knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1), inclusive design, and user experience principles in a learning context.
- Experience in using digital learning and collaboration platforms (e.g. SharePoint, Microsoft 365, Articulate).
- Strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to influence design decisions and lead discussions with confidence.
- Effective communication skills across visual, written and verbal formats, with the ability to distill complex information into engaging outcomes.
- Proven ability to manage multiple design projects and deadlines with a high degree of attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Capacity to support strategic planning and continuous improvement through creative problem-solving and visual thinking.

- Salary offered will be between $96,503 - $108,869 per annum depending on skills and experience. In addition, 15.4% superannuation will be paid.

- Non-ongoing opportunity will be offered for an irregular/intermittent term. Opportunities will be offered for varying periods up to 12 months with the option to extend to a total of 24 months.
