Job Description

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Legal Counsel to join our team at our Head Office in Altona. This is a permanent, part-time opportunity with flexibility to be either 2 – 3 days per week ( 0.4 – 0.6 FTE)
Reporting to the Managing Director, you will play a vital role in delivering strategic and practical legal advice across both our corporate and operational teams within the logistics and rail sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts
  • Provide legal advice across diverse practice areas including commercial, corporate, property, privacy, industrial relations/human resources (IR/HR), and workplace health and safety (WHS)
  • Support the interpretation and negotiation of client agreements
  • Assist with dispute resolution matters including mediation, arbitration, and litigation
  • Prepare comprehensive legal briefs and instructions for external counsel
  • Deliver clear, concise legal advice to internal business units, the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), and the Board
  • Develop and implement legal policies, procedures, and training programs
  • Ensure internal policies are up to date and compliant with current legislation and business needs
  • Promote and support compliance with employment, safety, environmental, and community standards
Desired Skills and Experience

Skills and Experience
Essential:

  • 5–10 years post-admission legal experience, ideally with a blend of private practice and in-house exposure
  • Eligible to hold (or currently holding) an unrestricted practising certificate issued by a State Law Society
  • Strong expertise in commercial, contract and real estate law
  • Sound knowledge of corporate governance and relevant regulatory frameworks
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills across all levels of the business
  • Proven ability to draft, interpret, and negotiate complex legal documents
