Oatley West Public School has a population of 520 students in 22 classes and is 30 minutes from the Sydney CBD. The school is located in the Georges River Network of Schools in Sydney's South in the beautiful surrounds of Oatley Park, and has a uniquely peaceful environment which encourages an active lifestyle. Oatley West Public School is founded on a strong culture of school improvement and success. The staff is committed to achieving high student learning outcomes in partnership with parents and the wider community. This culture of effective learning is clearly expressed by the school's motto 'Learning to Live - Living to Learn'. The school's emphasis is on developing contemporary well-rounded students with Oatley West PS offering a large range of extra-curricular activities including band, music tuition, chess, choir, dance, debating and public speaking. Our students are encouraged to be active contributors in the decision making of the school through the strong Student Representative Council. Oatley West PS collaborates with the local community to offer Out Of School Hours (OOSH) care for parents needing this service as well as programs including French, Greek, Taekwondo, Yoga and Coding delivering benefit to both the school and the community. Oatley West PS demonstrates outstanding achievements in the performing arts and sport. Enrolment to the school is highly sought after due to the school's outstanding academic reputation and results. An enormous part of the success of Oatley West PS can be attributed to the high number of parents and carers involved in and around the school, The Parents and Citizens Association has a number of active subcommittees. These include uniform shop, music council and community festival. There is also a School Club committee. Traditionally, Oatley West PS has has a strong volunteer input with support in school programs including; parent volunteer reading programs, early intervention literacy programs (MiniLit & MacqLit), mentors, gardening, interschool sport competition (PSSA), school carnivals and fundraisers. The school has completed a situational analysis following External Validation in 2024 that identified three areas of focus for this School Excellence Plan; student growth and attainment, data skills and use to inform teaching and wellbeing and engagement. General Selection Criteria

• Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
• Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
• Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
• Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
• Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
• Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
  
  

Specific Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary

Demonstrated strong educational leadership to inspire and support the implementation of evidence-informed explicit teaching practices with a focus on continuous improvement to ensure growth and attainment of literacy and numeracy for all students.

Capacity to implement a creative, flexible and innovative approach to managing a stage team to support curriculum development including High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE), explicit teaching and critical thinking to support equity and excellence to the diverse needs of all students K-6.

Knowledge and effective implementation of positive behaviour management strategies to ensure safe, inclusive learning environments are established and maintained where all students feel valued and respected.

Well-developed skills to build authentic connections and collaboration with students, parents, staff and wider community to strengthen productive educational partnerships to enhance learning and wellbeing across the school.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
