Here at HSBC Australia we have an exciting opportunity for a Data Manager to join us in working exclusively with the HSBC Wealth and Personal Banking (WPB) business, to ensure adherence to local data management requirements and alignment to the HSBC Group Data Strategy. Other elements of the role include operation of local data controls to support local regulatory requirements and to improve data quality for regulatory reporting. The successful candidate will support execution of key data initiatives and work on regulatory change projects that have a material impact to data such as the Privacy Act Reforms and Granular Data Reporting. They will also drive Data Quality issues management, including regular reviews of data quality dashboards, impact assessment, root cause analysis, recommending prioritization of issues and oversight of the resolution of data quality issues via data remediations. In addition, it will represent Data Quality Issues at WPB risk forums, and conduct read across of issues for all WPB data controls to assess impact on regulatory reporting and drive any identified tactical actions e.g., temporary detective controls.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring data is managed and governed in line in adherence to Group Data Policy and local regulatory requirements (APRA/ASIC/ACCC) covering Data Management/Privacy and Information Lifecycle Management
  • Support the Head of WPB, in ensuring full and transparent oversight of all WPB data initiatives at a country, regional and global level.
  • Manage and monitor the Data Quality process, remediation, issues and reporting.
  • Work with WPB stakeholders and Business/product owners to resolve data issues identified and remediate data quality problem areas.
  • Work with stakeholders including regulatory compliance, second line risk stewards, first line risk owners and provide the subject matter expertise to facilitate a cohesive, collaborative and effective oversight of data.
  • Accountable for reporting of progress, issues, dependencies, and risks to stakeholders, to ensure timely escalation to Head of WPB and the relevant forum; Country Data Executive Council, Risk Management Meetings and/or steering committees as required.
  • Assist in defining and implementing key controls that reduce data related operational risk, including data quality issues management and data privacy. Conduct monitoring to ensure controls are working effectively to mitigate risks.
Requirements

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and significant experience dealing directly with data management, or a related field, required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Financial Services (Banking, Wealth Management, and Capital Markets) business processes and information needs: client, risk / regulatory / finance, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data structure, data systems/tools and related software and data management policies and practices in a complex organizational environment
  • Business process analysis skills - ability to interpret policies and regulations, analyze and document current processes and translate into enhanced processes, business requirements and controls.
  • Data analysis skills - ability to analyze client identifiers and data quality fail records to identify patterns and potential root cause.
  • Experience in delivering change and remediation programs (project planning and tracking; Issue identification and management; project status reporting)
  • Understanding of WPB processes, front and back-end systems used for collection and processing data is highly desirable.
Preference will be given to candidates who hold Australian PR/Citizenship or New Zealand Citizenship, or who can demonstrate current unrestricted work rights in Australia without limitations.
