The Kick-off Story
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has awarded Football Australia hosting rights for the 2026 edition of the AFC Women's Asian Cup. This marks Australia's second time hosting the event, after previously staging it in 2006, and follows the success of co-hosting the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.
You will be part of a Local Organising Committee (LOC), which has been established for the sole purpose of delivering the 2026 edition of the AFC Women's Asian Cup in Australia.
This prestigious event will bring together 12 nations in a tournament structured into three groups of four. We are eager to create another tournament that celebrates women's football and multicultural Australia and also delivers legacy outcomes for football and Australian society more broadly.

Your Next Big Match
Please note that this role is fixed term until March 2026.
General / WHS Strategy and Integration
- Develop and embed WHS plans and principles across workforce planning, onboarding, and daily operations.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, codes of practice, and industry standards.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with internal teams, contractors, suppliers, and authorities to align safety practices.
- Provide WHS guidance and support to managers, employees, and supplier leads.
Risk Management
- Conduct risk assessments, audits, and implement hazard controls.
- Lead incident response planning, reporting, and investigations.
Training and Communication
- Deliver accessible WHS training for staff and volunteers.
- Create clear safety communications, signage, and briefings.
Monitoring and Reporting
- Track WHS compliance and performance, providing reports and recommendations to ELT.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, hazards, inspections, and corrective actions.
Procurement
- Lead WHS risk assessments and supplier safety compliance in procurement processes.
- Monitor suppliers' WHS performance and manage incidents linked to suppliers.
Crisis and Incident Management
- Develop and implement crisis/incident management plans with LOC PMO.
- Provide WHS leadership in the Main Operations Centre and venue incident response.
Venues
- Integrate WHS into venue operations for bump-in, event, and bump-out phases.
- Act as lead WHS contact, overseeing hazard management and on-site leadership.

What Gets You in the Game?
- Minimum 5 years experience in WHS roles, preferably in major events, sport or venue operations
- Extensive knowledge of Australian WHS legislation and standards
- Proven ability to manage WHS across diverse and temporary workforces
- Excellent communication, training and stakeholder engagement skills
Offside Conditions
- Full working rights in Australia *(please note that due to the fixed-term nature of the tournament, we are unable to offer sponsorship for this position)
- Working with children check (paid/employee) or state-based equivalent
- International Criminal History Record for each country (other than Australia) in which you have resided for 12 months or more in the last 10 years (if applicable)
- Out of hours and weekend work as required
- Our roles are based at Moore Park in Sydney
