Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Overview

Services Australia is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Senior Gateway Engineer) to manage and maintain critical gateway and networking infrastructure that supports digital services. The role involves providing expert advice on ICT platforms, liaising with third-party suppliers, and ensuring the robustness, security, and reliability of the agency's gateway systems.

Base pay range

A$175,000.00/yr - A$225,000.00/yr

Location and work arrangements

This position will be based onsite at 134 Reed St, Greenway, ACT, with standard full-time hours of 40 per week. Hybrid working arrangements may be considered after the initial 6 weeks onsite, with at least 3 days per week required onsite thereafter.

Key Skills and Experience

• Extensive experience in the design, management, and maintenance of internet gateway and/or large-scale data centre networking environments (minimum 5 years).
• Technical proficiency with F5/Blue Coat Layer 4-7 switching, load balancing, and proxy systems.
• Experience designing and deploying Cisco data centre technologies such as Cisco ACI, routers, Nexus switches, and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP).
• Knowledge of Palo Alto firewalls and IPS solutions, VPN technologies, email systems, and DNS (Infoblox).
• Experience integrating hybrid and public cloud services into infrastructure designs.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain system architecture and design documentation.
• Strong knowledge of Australian Government information security policies, the ASD Information Security Manual, and the Essential Eight.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Design, evaluate, and implement infrastructure requirements to meet future agency needs.
• Provide expert technical support for project build, test, and solution deployment activities.
• Prepare, review, and maintain design documentation, implementation plans, test plans, and support procedures.
• Assist in the development and implementation of strategies, operational policy, procedures, and change initiatives.
• Participate in change management processes and communicate implications of configuration changes.
• Provide specialist and strategic advice to senior executives and stakeholders.
• Share knowledge, mentor colleagues, and act as a subject matter expert within the team.
• Conduct research on emerging technologies and recommend suitable solutions for the agency.
• Engage and partner with other agencies and service providers to enhance service delivery capability.
• Manage the operation of backup, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions.
• Administer and maintain gateway network infrastructure and associated technical layers.

Technical Skills

• Cisco data centre technologies (ACI, routers, Nexus switches) and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP)

Working Arrangements

• Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week
• Hybrid Work: Initial 6 weeks onsite mandatory. Post this, hybrid work may be considered, with a minimum of 3 days onsite per week.

Security Clearance

• Candidates must hold NV1 Security Clearance prior to commencing work.

Period of Engagement

• Initial Contract Duration: 12 months
• Extension Term: Up to a maximum of 24 months, as required.
• At least 5 years' demonstrated experience in the design, management, and maintenance of internet gateway and/or large-scale data centre networking environments.
• Demonstrated experience in F5/Blue Coat Layer 4-7 switching/load balancing and proxy systems.
• Experience designing and deploying Cisco data centre technologies (ACI, routers, Nexus switches, BGP/OSPF/EIGRP).
• Proficiency with Palo Alto firewalls, IPS solutions, VPN, email, and DNS (Infoblox).
• Experience integrating hybrid and public cloud services.
• Knowledge and compliance with Australian Government information security policies, ASD ISM, and Essential Eight.
