At Stone & Wood, we're passionate about brewing top-quality beer—and we know that behind every great brew is a team of experts keeping the gears turning. We're on the lookout for a Controls and Automation Engineer – Permanent Full Time to take our automation systems to the next level.

This newly created role will be the go-to expert for all things controls and automation at our Murwillumbah brewery. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you'll oversee the performance and reliability of our control systems, lead site automation projects, support operations in real time, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive improvements across the site.

What you'll be doing
  • Safety first – Safety first– Champion safety in all aspects of automation work and ensure compliance with site and company-wide standards.
  • Automation expert – Own the site's control systems and automation infrastructure and ensure it aligns with Group standards and best practices.
  • Project leadership – Scope, develop and implement automation and controls strategies to improve production performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration – Partner with Engineering, Operations, and the Asset Care team to develop and embed reliability plans.
  • Problem-solving pro – Be part of the front line, supporting real-time issue resolution and breakdown rectification to help keep beer flowing.
  • Tech advocate – Stay across emerging automation technologies and equipment, and act as the SME for our preferred platforms.
  • Drive improvement – Help embed our Supply Chain Operations Systems (TPM, KATA), manage the automation budget, and build site capability through coaching and knowledge sharing.
What we're looking for
  • Ideally, you will have a degree in Electrical Engineering or a Certificate 3 in Electrotechnology.
  • Solid experience working in an automation or controls engineering role, ideally in a fast-paced manufacturing or operations environment.
  • Strong knowledge of control systems, instrumentation, SCADA, PLCs (e.g. Siemens, Rockwell), and automation standards.
  • Proven skills in process improvement, project management, and implementing reliability strategies.
  • A collaborative mindset and ability to bring people along for the ride as you lead change and build capability.
