Our new position of Team Leader Natural Area Management, reports to our Manager - Sustainability and Environment.

**About the role**:

- coordination and development of Council’s natural area management program including management of staff and contractors
- coordinate the preparation and implementation of management and operational plans for Council administered natural areas including pest animal control, bushfire risk and recreational access management strategies
- interacts extensively with other Divisions at management and officer level, and has external communication with the general public, consultants, interest groups, public authorities and Councillors, and provides advice on all aspects of natural area management as well as Council policy matters
- develop, implement and monitor Council's natural area management program and projects to ensure Council administered natural areas are managed to enhance their biodiversity values and in accordance with legislative requirements, predicted future needs and contemporary environmental pressures.

**We are seeking**:

- degree level qualifications in Environmental Science or Natural Resource Management discipline
- an understanding of local and regional natural area management issues and bushland rehabilitation principles and practices including demonstrated practical experience in the field
- expert knowledge in the fields of natural area management, habitat restoration, bushfire risk management
- great planning and time management skills.

**Essential**:
1. Degree level qualifications in Environmental Science or Natural Resource Management discipline.
2. Demonstrated thorough understanding of local and regional natural area management issues including bushfire risk, public access, pest animal and weed control.
3. Demonstrated ability to manage annual programs and associated budgets and high level of project management skills including staff supervision.
4. Well-developed flora and fauna species and vegetation community type identification skills, including weeds, threatened species and endangered ecological communities.
5. A clear understanding of bushland rehabilitation principles and practices including demonstrated practical experience in field surveys, environmental assessment and the preparation of ecological restoration and management plans.
6. Demonstrated understanding of, and expertise in, current practices, policy directions and priorities relating to natural area and bushfire planning and management.
7. Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
8. Demonstrated ability to scope and acquire funding for planning, management and on-ground projects.
9. Competence in the use of Geographical Information Systems and the design of natural resource management databases.
10. Eligible to hold a Current Vehicle Licence - Car.

**Desirable**:
11. Training in Bush Fire Hazard Reduction Certificate issuing.
