The Tweed is one of Australia's most biodiverse local government areas and supports World Heritage rainforests, 56 distinct vegetation types and over 100 threatened animal species. The Project Officer Natural Area Management is a new position created to assist Council's Sustainability and Environment Unit in its role as steward of the restoration, conservation and management of its natural areas. The position will assist with the day to day operational management of Council managed bushland, which includes bush rehabilitation, bushfire mitigation, public access, pest animals and weed control.

**We are seeking**:
- a minimum Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management, or similar
- understanding of natural area management including flora and fauna identification, bushland restoration and bushfire risk management
- an ability to identify and resolve environmental problems
- knowledge of relevant legislation that applies to the management of public land in NSW

**Essential**
1. Minimum Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management, or similar with demonstrated knowledge and experience in natural area management.
2. Demonstrated understanding of local natural area management issues including rehabilitation and restoration, bushfire risk, public access, pest animals and weed control.
3. Well-developed knowledge of, and ability to identify, local flora and fauna including their habitats, threatened species and endangered ecological communities and threatening processes.
4. A clear understanding of, and experience in delivering land management projects, including site assessments, preparing restoration management plans, monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
5. Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
6. Eligible to hold a Current Vehicle Licence - Car.
**Desirable**:
1. Degree qualifications in environmental sciences or natural resource management related field.
3. Demonstrated ability to engage and supervise contractors and manage associated budgets.
