The Role
We're seeking a passionate and dedicated Planning Compliance Officer to join our Regional City Planning Department on a temporary full-time basis until mid-January 2026.
This role involves investigating alleged breaches of the Latrobe Planning Scheme, Planning Permits, and Section 173 Agreements. You will take action to ensure compliance using the Infringements Acts and other notices in line with the Planning and Environment Act.
You will also raise awareness of planning controls among the community and developers, leading to higher compliance levels and positive outcomes for the municipality.
About You :
You should have a proven track record in enforcement and compliance activities, with a solid understanding of relevant legislation such as the Planning and Environment Act, Planning Appeals Act, Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal Act, Subdivision Act, and the Victorian Planning Scheme.
Your knowledge of legislation and understanding of local government issues will enable you to contribute effectively to the team.
You must be able to liaise, coordinate, and communicate with diverse stakeholders, and find solutions to new situations using your technical expertise.
You should demonstrate strong time management skills, meet deadlines, prioritize work, and provide excellent customer service, with a commitment to continuous improvement.
You will need :
Experience in enforcement or within a Local Government Authority.
Ability to interpret relevant planning legislation and policies, and communicate these clearly.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn specialised systems.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Adaptability, initiative, and a commitment to ongoing improvement.
Current Victorian Driver's Licence.
Desirable :
Planning or Environmental Management qualifications.
Successful applicants will need to obtain a National Police Check and a Working with Children Check.
