About Us

QFES is responsible for ensuring the safety of people and property across Queensland through prevention, preparation, response, and recovery activities during emergencies. It comprises the Fire and Rescue Service, Rural Fire Service, and State Emergency Service, supporting volunteer groups across Queensland.

Purpose of the Role

QFES delivers high-quality fire, rescue, emergency, and disaster management services through a collaborative approach across its services and stakeholders, aiming to improve community safety outcomes.

Key Requirements

Mandatory Requirements

  • Employers written consent to attend incidents and emergencies (if applicable)
  • Live or work within a reasonable distance of the auxiliary fire station
  • Australian Permanent Resident Status
  • Manual C Class driver's licence

Auxiliary firefighters are expected to commit to:

  • Attending incident and emergency calls – 50% as day workers with routine hours or 30% as shift workers or with non-routine hours
  • Attending 75% of drills and training sessions
  • Obtaining an MRV licence at their own expense within 12 months
  • Participating in ongoing skills and emergency care training
  • Complying with QFES policies, including safety and conduct standards

Your key accountabilities

  • Respond to fire and emergency incidents as part of a team. Note: Those who haven't completed all pre-operational aspects of ARTEP may attend activities excluding emergency incidents.
  • Promote community safety through education activities.
  • Maintain competencies via regular drills and training.
  • Operate firefighting and rescue equipment safely.
  • Maintain station facilities and equipment.
  • Assist with incident reporting and station administration.
  • Foster a positive team environment and adhere to legislative and policy requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with personnel, other emergency services, and the community.
