About Us
As an emergency service agency, QFES is responsible for ensuring the safety of people and property across Queensland through effective prevention, preparation, response, and recovery activities across various emergency situations.
Comprising the Fire and Rescue Service, the Rural Fire Service, and the State Emergency Service, QFES also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.
QFES is one department with many services, capabilities, and partners.
Purpose of the Role
The functions of Queensland Fire and Emergency Services are unique. It is the only entity in Australia delivering high-quality fire, rescue, emergency, and disaster management services through a single agency. This collaborative approach enhances safety outcomes for the community.
Key Requirements
Mandatory Requirements
- Employers written consent to attend incidents and emergencies (where applicable)
- Live or work within a reasonable distance of the auxiliary fire station
- Australian Permanent Resident Status
- Manual C Class driver's license
All auxiliary firefighters are expected to commit to:
- Attending incident and emergency calls – 50% as a day worker with routine hours, or 30% as a shift worker or with non-routine hours
- Attending 75% of regular drills and training sessions
- Obtaining an MRV license at their own expense within 12 months of employment
- Participating in ongoing skills acquisition and maintenance programs, including first aid/emergency care
- Complying with QFES policies, procedures, code of conduct, safety, and personal presentation standards
Your Key Accountabilities
- Respond to fire and other emergency incidents as part of a team. Note: Auxiliary Firefighters who have not completed all pre-operational aspects of ARTEP (FFGC085) may attend activities at their station, except emergency incidents.
- Promote community safety and emergency preparedness through community education activities.
- Develop and maintain competencies by participating in drills and training to ensure safety and effectiveness.
- Maintain attendance standards for emergencies and training.
- Operate firefighting and rescue equipment safely and effectively.
- Contribute to station facility upkeep and hygiene.
- Ensure maintenance and repairs of equipment and facilities.
- Assist with incident reporting and station administration.
- Foster a positive team environment.
- Comply with legislative, policy, and procedural requirements.
- Communicate effectively with personnel, other emergency services, and the community.
- Contribute to a safe and healthy work environment.
