The role

Reporting to the Credit Risk Manager, the Collections Team Leader will lead and develop a team of Collections Specialists to achieve collection goals. The role involves managing day-to-day collections operations and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively improve the Collections function by updating and monitoring processes, policies, and manuals to ensure compliance and excellent customer experience.
  • Gather documentation for external collections partners.
  • Develop and track KPIs for the collections team.
  • Handle customer payment difficulties with sensitivity and tact.
  • Maintain detailed records of interactions, contact details, and collection activities.
  • Suggest system or process improvements to increase efficiency.
  • Present weekly collections data.
  • Manage partner relationships (e.g., collection agencies, outsourced reminder partners).
  • Assist with launching new collection projects, including testing and execution.
  • Train, mentor, and manage team members.
  • Participate in Group Audits related to collections information.
  • Allocate tasks to meet efficiency and compliance targets.
  • Assist with daily collection duties as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within your skills and abilities.

Requirements

  • Understanding of debt collection and legal obligations.
  • Self-motivated and commercially minded.
  • High attention to detail and methodical approach.
  • Active listening and effective questioning skills.
  • Proactive, performance-driven, and positive attitude.
  • Independent problem-solving abilities.
  • Flexible approach within established credit frameworks.
  • Knowledge of Debt Collections Guidelines and legal requirements.
  • Ability to work in ambiguous environments and create structure.
  • Solid experience in debt recovery roles.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively engage with customers.
  • Experience with Salesforce is highly regarded.
  • People management experience.
