Gain hands-on experience in open pit mining with Evolution Mining's Cowal operation, contributing to real projects and business improvement in a 12-week residential program.

Your Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking a specific Business Improvement Project as delegated by the Senior Mining Engineer.
  • Working in the Open Pit team alongside Mining Engineers, gaining experience in mine planning, design, dump staging strategies, drill and blast engineering, and business improvement.
  • Gaining hands-on experience with mining software such as Deswik and ShotPlus.
  • Observing interactions between the Open Pit Team and other departments including Operations, Geotech, Geology, Maintenance, and Processing.
  • Presenting to Superintendents and the Senior Leadership Team on placement experience, project outcomes, and improvement opportunities.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of effective dump design and staging strategies.
  • Supporting drill and blast engineering tasks to optimize operational efficiency and safety.
  • Complying with Evolution Mining and Cowal Gold Operation's site-specific Safety and Health management systems.
About You

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Current enrolment in a degree such as Mining Engineering, Science (Mining), Engineering Science (Mining Engineering), or Civil Engineering.
  • Experience with relevant software and systems through studies or placements (Deswik, ShotPlus preferred).
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills across verbal, written, numerical, and graphical formats.
  • Ability to uphold high work standards and build strong relationships with peers and leaders.
  • Capacity to work independently to meet personal and team goals.
  • A valid manual driver's licence.
  • Willingness to live and work remotely.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Flights or reimbursement of travel expenses at the beginning and end of the program.
  • Residential housing provided and subsidized.
  • Transport to site arranged.
  • All necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) supplied.
  • 12-week residential program from December to February, with a roster of 5 days on/2 days off and 4 days on/3 days off.
  • Fast-tracked entry into the graduate program for successful candidates.
  • Access to a supportive and inclusive work environment.
Training & Development
  • Hands-on experience through on-the-job learning.
  • Mentorship from experienced technical leaders.
  • Participation in operational and personal development training.
  • Ownership of real projects with meaningful impact.
